Tony's pictorial countdown to next Coastival
AN award-winning photographer is launching a unique pictorial countdown to the next Coastival event.
Tony Bartholomew – whose pictures have often appeared in the Whitby Gazette – will publish an exclusive image every day from now until 10 February 2011, the day before the next Coastival arts festival begins.
Coastival will run from 11 to 13 February next year and Tony's Coastival 365 will provide a year-long reminder.
Tony, a professional photographer, will take a new picture each day and post them for visitors to see at www.coastival.com/365
"This is something I have always wanted to do and the opportunity to be part of Coastival has given me the added impetus to do it," he said.
"The pictures will be observed images of Scarborough and the surrounding area in the coming year, each with a simple, descriptive caption."
People will be able to get RSS, Twitter and Facebook alerts to tell them that the day's image has been posted.
All 365 images will also be put on display as part of the Coastival event and may ultimately be published in book or postcard form.
He added: "I'm looking forward to it. It will be a challenge but enormous fun.
"Usually I am working to a specific brief and it will be nice to be able to take and publish pictures for the pleasure and the strength of the image involved."
Coastival organiser Wendy Clews said: "This is a fantastic idea from Tony and a truly unique way to countdown to Coastival, keep the festival in people's minds and raise its profile up to the event.
"I hope everyone will take the chance to log on and enjoy the talent and creativity that has gone in to them.
"We are very grateful to Tony for joining in in this way and can't wait to see the images."
She said planning was already well under way for Coastival 2011 and it was hoped to make the event, over three days, bigger and better than last year.
The first Coastival, last February, drew thousands of visitors to the area. Some 9,024 people attended 96 events in 30 venues.
Coastival featured music, theatre, comedy, dance and children's activities.
