Three men seriously injured after Staithes car crash

A MAN has been arrested after the car he was driving crashed into a lamp post yesterday morning in Staithes, seriously injuring his three passengers.

The purple Rover 214i saloon had been travelling towards Whitby on the A174 at Staithes when the driver lost control of the car which ended up on its side, shortly after 5.30am.

The three men also sustained serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, for treatment.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver and his front seat passenger were unhurt.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene by police for dangerous driving and was taken to Scarborough Police Station for questioning.

All the occupants were from the Middlesbrough area.

The road was closed until around 8.30am with traffic diversions in place.
