Thousands step back in time

RECORD numbers of people flocked to the area for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Wartime Weekend - and you can see a photo gallery of the first day here.

Tens of thousands were transported back to the 1930s as soldiers marched through the streets and steam trains filled with revellers intent on celebrating in style.

Grosmont and Goathland stations had events running across the weekend with re-enactors setting up displays and carrying out air raid drills, much to the public's delight.

In Pickering more than 10,000 people lined the streets watch the parade.
