Burglars broke into a home on Cliff Street and made off with a flat screen television.

The theft occurred between Tuesday March 4 and the following Friday from a holiday let property on Cliff Street.

The thieves broke into the premises before stealing a 40in JVC television.

PC Louise Beck, of Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you witnessed any suspicious activity in the Cliff Street area around the time of the burglary, I urge you to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone who can help with this investigation should contact Whitby police on 101, select option 2 and ask for Louise Beck. Alternatively, information can be emailed to louise.beck@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

At a recent town council meeting, police inspector Andy Colbourne said burglaries in Whitby were up 126.3 per cent.

He added: “A lot of this is down to insecure properties, with people trusting they are not going to be burgled.”
