THE Friends of Whitby Lifeboat have raised £21,000 for the RNLI lifeboat at their summer raffle.

Tickets have been on sale at the lifeboat museum since March and Friends of Whitby Lifeboat’s Graham Holmes said: “This amazing result has been achieved through the hard work and dedication of a small group of fundraisers.

“A number of local businesses have also been selling them on our behalf and we are most grateful for their help.

“We are fortunate to be able to benefit from Whitby’s thriving tourist trade and we would like to thanks everyone who has bought tickets on their visits here.

The first prize was a two-night break, donated by Laura and Mark Verity of Hudson’s bed and breakfast and was won by ticket number 12963.

Second prize was ticket 14135 and third prize was ticket 07681.

The next fund-raising event for the Friends of Whitby Lifeboat is the ever-popular dance with Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds on Saturday 12 November at the Friendship Rowing Club.

Tickets are expected to sell out quickly and are available from the Sutcliffe Gallery on Flowergate, the RNLI shop and museum or by ringing Graham Holmes on (01947) 895981 or 07812 759507.
