Success for Sleights theatre school

A Sleights theatre school which has supplied 300 students to the likes of Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, has once again succeeded with a number of impressive recent graduates.

Northac International celebrate their 30th anniversary next year and awarded 20-year-old Caroline Cooper their platinum award recently.

The youngster said: "I've been with Northac for over nine years. It has helped me no end, both as a performer and a person."

The company concentrates on classical training for both stage and television roles, Senior students were recently offered seven places in universities and full-time drama schools.

Past graduates have appeared in productions from the Stephen Joseph Theatre to London's West End.

The school's principal Jeff Loy has been in the business 40 years and said: "At Northac, groups are small and I personally conduct every lesson from sword fight to stage make-up; from Shakespeare to Ayckbourn. Every student matters to me, the discipline is tight but the emphasis is on the enjoyment of theatre, hence the length of time the majority of students stay with us."

Visiting examiner Mr John Hill added: "The overall standard of these students is very pleasing, in many cases outstanding.

"The exams ran over by a couple of hours, but the work was of such a quality as to have made it wrong to curtail any of it."

Northac meet every Wednesday evening of school term at Sleights Village Hall.
