Stricken cruiser saved off Whitby

COASTGUARDS were called to assist a stricken vessel at Robin Hood's Bay with fuel problems on Saturday night.

At 8.50pm Humber Coastguards tasked the Whitby all weather lifeboat George and Mary Webb to go to the assistance of the power driven vessel Georgia Blue with five people on board.

The sea state was described as slight and Georgia Blue had broken down off Runswick Bay with fuel problems.

The RNLI lifeboat arrived on scene in seven minutes and took Georgia Blue in tow and returned her to the Fish Quay in Whitby Harbour at 10.10pm.

Coxswain Mike Russell said that it was good that there was only a slight sea running which made the job easier and hoped that people with power driven boats would regularly make it a priority to check their engines and fuel lines.
