Strange lights reported in the night sky

A WHITBY man and his wife are appealing to Whitby Gazette readers to help them solve the mystery of some strange red lights they saw in the sky last Monday.

Harry Ramsay (69) and his wife Carole (64) of Laburnum Grove spotted five red balls of light in the sky towards Sandsend at around 6.30pm.

Carole had been walking their dog at the bottom of Love Lane when she saw the phenomenon and rang Harry to see if he could see it too.

He said: "There was no sound, no noise, no nothing.

"They were in line with each other and quite a distance away.

"They seemed to be going away from me.

"I had to go across the road to have a clearer look and I could see them through the houses.

"I stood there for about 10 minutes watching them and then I went home.

"Someone must have reported them to the police."

Mr Ramsay said his neighbour had seen them too and thought they might have been hot air balloons but Mr Ramsay says in his opinion he's not so sure.

"It wasn't an aeroplane. I was in the RAF for 22 years," he added.

"You would have had some sort of noise.

"It wasn't UFOs, I don't believe in them."
