Stone heads mystery spreads
THE mysterious stone heads which appeared in Goathland last week have been seen again near Thirsk.
Whitby resident Cath Cooling works in Kilburn and said eight of the disembodied figures were spotted in the village.
Like in Goathland the heads vanished almost as soon as they appeared – and there are now reports that the phenomenon was repeated near Selby.
The landlady of the local pub in Kilburn, The Forresters Arms, has one of the heads taking pride of place on her bar.
"I think there was six of them which appeared in total," said Fiona Gould.
"They were all placed in people's property and were wrapped in a bag advertising a brand of German filter cigarettes.
"Then each had a card tied round its neck with a poem on it."
The poem read: Twinkle, twinkle little star, does love burn less from afar?
The heads appeared on Tuesday 18 September, the same day as in Whitby and Fiona says she is keen to get to the bottom of the mystery.
"I heard from someone that the heads were seen near Selby on the same day – they obviously have some significance and I want to find out what that is."
