Steve ready to put in an oar-some gig

STEVE Phillips and the Rough Diamonds are set to rock Whitby's Friendship Rowing Club for the 12th bi-annual lifeboat fund-raiser gig later this month.

Hailed to be "the greatest exponent of country blues in the country today" by Now Dig Thismagazine, Steve and his five-man entourage will descend on Whitby once again to deliver a raucous and energetic performance.

Steve said he and the band are looking forward to the fund-raiser, on Saturday 27 June, as they are always well attended and enjoyed, not just by local music fans, but followers county and country wide.

Confident of another sell-out, Steve recommends early booking having spoken to a number of fans in previous years, who were left disappointed as the last tickets evaded them.

Event organiser Graham Holmes told the Gazette he is sure the gig will be another unremitting success.

"People can expect a great night, with a chance to dance to R and B, western swing and rock 'n' roll," he said.

It is expected this event will take the total funding raised to more than 10,000, generating a large part of the Friends of Whitby Lifeboat's funding income; a feat for which Mr Holmes gives his thanks to the continued support of Steve Phillips and the Rough Diamonds.

He also acknowledges the difficulties facing the public with regard to charitable donation.

"The RNLI is suffering a reduction in donation due to the current economic climate," he said.

"We appreciate all ticket sales, donations and support even more than ever."

Tickets are priced 10, to book call Graham on (01947) 895981.

Tickets are also available from Diamond Music, Flowergate and lifeboat shops and museums.

While tickets are available on the door, they are subject to availability, the only way to guarantee attendance is to get in there early and book in advance.
