Fancy moving house and fast?

Yorkshire Coast Homes is holding a ‘Room to Move’ event next week where fellow tennants can discuss swapping homes with each other.

In speed dating style they can chat to other tenants and representatives from the housing association about their housing needs and requirements with a view to moving.

A similar event was held last year which resulted in six households successfully swapping with each other.

It is hoped that there will be even more this year, especially in light of changes to the benefits system.

One of the main changes is the bedroom tax which penalises tenants with spare rooms meaning that social housing tenants are more and more looking to manage their outgoings.

So, ‘Room to Move’ enables, for example, a couple with an unoccupied room to swap with a growing family who are struggling for space and on the look-out for a bigger house.

Andy Lord, the YCH welfare reform officer said: “YCH is concerned about the impact that the Government’s bedroom tax has had but we feel confident that by participating in this event our tenants will be able to identify potential home swaps that will prove more suitable for their needs.

“We know that the system works and that people are able to improve their situations quite easily and within a relatively short time.”

The events takes place on Wednesday between noon and 2pm at The Coliseum,
