Sleights play park moves a step closer
A NEW play park in Sleights has moved a step closer as Scarborough Council is to begin the tendering process.
Ingham Play Park has secured 143,500 of funding, including 100,000 from the Lottery, towards new equipment for the ruined site.
The budget is slightly lower than first hoped as 72,000 grant from the LEADER fund was reduced to 40,000.
The scheme was initiated by the Ingham Play Park Committee (IPPC) and developed alongside the council.
In his report to go before the council's Cabinet on Tuesday, Matthew Smartt (CORR), landscape architect in the council's Parks and Countryside Services, wrote: "This project is a true partnership with the local community who have put in a great deal of the work in developing and progressing the scheme.
"The project management arrangements provide an effective framework for the tendering and delivery of the project.
"Public consultation has shown that improvements to this site are important for a great majority of local people and it is supported by the council's strategies and policies. This project provides an ideal opportunity to provide a new asset on a currently under utilised play area. It should be well received and well used."
Council approval for tenders to build the park and for an appointment of a Construction Design Management Coordinator to oversee the project will now be sought.
It is hoped work will begin on the site by August at the latest, with a completion date pencilled in for October.
