Sleights play park gets another cash boost
THE village of Sleights has received yet another boost with the news it has secured £99,000 of funding to revamp its play park.
The cash from the Big Lottery Fund comes on the back of a further 36,000 of funding from the LEADER programme which was awarded earlier this month.
It brings the total cost of the project to 140,000 and will be used to transform Ingham Play Park this summer.
Tim Lawn, who represents the Esk Valley on Scarborough Borough Council, which will be responsible for managing and designing it, said the hard work of the residents on the Ingham Park Play Committee has really paid off.
"It's fantastic news for the village," he said.
"It's a real achievement, they have done really well to get this.
"The residents are absolutely over the moon with it. At the moment we've got a disused, dilapidated neglected piece of land that's going to be completely revamped into a new modern facility."
Coun Lawn said villagers Lisa Ward and Alyson Elders deserved special thanks after spending hundreds of hours filling in paperwork to help secure the grants.
Earlier this month, a meeting was held at the community centre in Ingham Close for locals to raise any concerns with the police, Yorkshire Coast Homes and representatives from Scarborough Borough Council, Eskdaleside-cum-Ugglebarnby Parish Council and the play park committee.
Coun Lawn added the meeting had gone well and that everyone is working together to help make the play park a success.
"It will be great for the kids in the village. They will have a brand new facility," he said.
