Sleights otter sighting

A WHITBY Gazette reader has got in touch to warn people in the Sleights area that he has spotted a mysterious hunter which may be on the prowl for unprotected pet fish.

Simon Pearson told us that while travelling up Sleights Bank he spotted a large otter, which he recognised after seeing them in Scotland on three weeks before.

He said: “I can think if anyone has prize carp or similar in there gardens in that area of Sleights, beware, these are hungry chaps.”

The Gazette has previously featured cases where entire ponds of prized fish have been emptied in a single night, with otters named as the likely culprits.
