Shed warmer beats weather
POOR weather for Marra's Shed Warming, a popular annual event in Egton, failed to deter regulars from turning out to enjoy an evening of varied attractions including music, disco dancing and a buffet supper.
It was the sixth year the shed warming was held and spokeswoman Daphne Jackson said: “It was a wet and cold evening and not tempting for people to come out but we got a good crowd.
“Hopefully we’ll have raised a decent sum when we get all the money in.”
The event was started by Egton farmer Tony Harland when a new cattle shed was erected in the village and he thought it would be a good idea to hold a shed warming for charity similar to a house warming.
The event gets its title from the term Marra – Tony’s nickname – meaning friend. It is held in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and last year’s event, which attracted almost 1,000 people, netted 10,000.
A charity auction is also featured and this year it realised a total of more than 1,500.
Prizes included a load of straw, a stone trough, a day with a vet, a day viewing Mary Reveley’s racehorses, two tickets for F1 Go Karting, a day of 4x4 schooling, a rib of beef and half a pig for the freezer.
