Shaunetta's plight makes the national news - WHAT DO YOU THINK?

THE RSPCA are mounting a rescue operation to bring stricken sheep Shaunetta back to safe ground.

The Whitby Gazette exclusively reported Shaunetta's plight in Friday's Whitby Gazette.

The wayward sheep is stuck hundreds of feet above the North Sea on a tiny ledge.

She was snapped by Juanita Deganaar, a crew member on board the Dutch motor sailor the Specksioneer, directly under cliffs just south of the lighthouse at Hawsker.

Now Shaunetta's dilemma has hit the headlines featuring in both the Mail on Sunday and The Daily Mirror and at the time of going to press, Sky Television were in town.

The Daily Mail claimed the woolly wanderer had been nicknamed Aretha by sympathetic locals after Aretha Franklin who sang the soul classic, Rescue me.

One reader on the Mail's website said Shaunetta should be shot as she would only end up at the market.

Since the Whitby Gazette's plea on Friday for information about who may own Shaunetta nobody has yet come forward.

A spokesman for the RSPCA told the Gazette as we went to press they are working to locate the sheep and will make an attempt to rescue her.

If you are the farmer or you know who the sheep belongs to call Whitby Gazette chief reporter Alex Fredman on (01947) 829911.
