Seconds from tragedy

THIS dramatic picture shows by Dave Carter shows cabin cruiser the Last Call seconds before the boat capsized, killing three people.

The 22ft boat overturned in horrendous conditions 100 yards from the entrance to Whitby Harbour.

Heroic rescuers were left devastated after doing all they could to save Andrew Carrick (45), his partner Jill Russell (48) and his brother John Carrick (36).

The Carrick brothers were washed overboard first and were rescued by Whitby Lifeboat crew who battled 16ft waves and gale force winds to pull the pair from the water. They both died in hospital.

Ms Russell made a frantic 999 call as her partner and his brother were washed away. She was plucked from the sea by the RAF Sea King helicopter, but died shortly after.
