SEARCH teams and police are looking for a walker who has not been seen since he left his guest house yesterday morning.

Alan McLean (61) was staying at Rounton House on Mount Pleasant in Robin Hood’s Bay and left the b&b at 11.15am on Sunday to go walking.

It isn’t known what direction he was headed but this morning search and rescue helicopters have been sweeping over the coastline while other teams have been scouring the cindertrack on foot.

Police say they are concerned for his welfare because his disappearance is out of character and he is known to have health issues but doesn’t have essential medication with him.

He is described as white, 5ft 4in with a slim build and grey hair. When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue Berghaus walking jacket and walking boots and was known to visit pubs when he was out and about.

Insp Andy Colbourne, of Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “Alan, if you see or hear this appeal I ask you to get in touch with the police as soon as possible so that we can confirm you are safe and well.

“If you made a last minute change to your plans and have stayed somewhere else for the night, this is not an issue. We are simply concerned about your welfare. I am asking people in the area to look out for Alan and if they see a man matching his description to contact the police straight away.”

Anyone who can help to locate Alan McLean is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the information to the Force Control Room.
