THE SEARCH for a missing man near Robin Hood’s Bay has this afternoon been called off.

Whitby Police are now considering their options as they attempt to trace the movements of Alan McLean (61) in the hours since he was last seen on Sunday (3 March).

Mr McLean, who is from Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, left the Rounton House bed and breakfast hotel where he had been staying at 11.15am, leaving behind his belongings and essential medicine.

Inspector Andy Colbourne, of Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We have now fully searched the area where we believe Mr McLean may have been.

“I am appealing to everyone who has been in the area since Alan was last seen to come forward and contact the police if they have seen a man matching his description. I am particularly keen to speak with bar staff in local pubs, where he may have called in for refreshments.”

“If you have any sheds or outbuildings I ask that you check them in case Alan has taken shelter overnight.”

Police officers, supported by the Coastguard, members of the Scarborough and Ryedale and Cleveland Search and Rescue teams and the RNLI inshore lifeboat have carried out a comprehensive search of the local area. Air Support was provided by a helicopter from Humberside police and an RAF Sea King.

Alan is described as white, 5ft 4in with a slim build and grey hair. When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans, a blue Berghaus walking jacket and walking boots.

Anyone who can help to locate Alan McLean is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the information to the Force Control Room.
