A 12-year-old schoolboy was injured after being hit by a car on Monday morning (January 20).

The boy was walking along the road when a small, dark red car turned into Rievaulx Road from Byland Road. The car mounted the pavement before colliding with the boy who sustained bruising to his arm and legs.

The car then made off without stopping and PC Andrew MacFarlane of Whitby police said: “We want to trace the driver of the red car and also want to speak to the driver of a black van which was seen driving along Rievaulx Road at the time as they could have vital information which could assist our investigation.

“Anyone else who has any information is also urged to get in touch.”

The car is described as a small hatchback, dark or rusty red in colour and was possibly displaying “L” plates. The driver was the only occupant in the car and was believed to be a woman.

The boy was taken to hospital and discharged later that day.

Anyone with any information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for PC Andrew MacFarlane. Or you can email Andrew.macfarlane@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
