Ruswarp open gardens event hailed a success
Residents in Ruswarp threw open their gardens to visitors for the village's first open gardens day.
The event held last month raised just over 500 for Whitby in Bloom.
Tony Degazon and Gwyn Davies welcomed visitors giving out tickets and directing them to those gardens taking part. The pair received many donations and said they were particularly grateful to Molly Grove, a regular supporter of the Bloom Group for her genorosity.
Allyson Scarth, Ann Stevenson, Jessie Holmes, Amanda Smith, George Dawson, Ada Myers, Julie Charleton and Jenny Taylor helped to keep a constant flow of strawberry tarts, teas and coffees.
And Sally Mead, Pauline Sellers, Julie Harrison, Wendy Holliday, Elaine, Hoyle, Elaine Tranter and Beryl Morley showed off their beautiful gardens and Linda and Bob Wilkins showed off their classic cars.
Villager Mary Degazon mounted an exhibition of photographs showing how much has been achieved by her Ruswarp Garden Society to enhance the village in recent years.
Jenny Spence opened Ruswarp Church to provide a tranquil haven and the village hall hosted an antique fair with delicious refreshments to sustain visitors and workers alike.
Susan Davies of Whitby in Bloom said: "Thank you very very much to everyone who took the trouble to give their time and resources and make such a lovely day for people to enjoy.
"We had so many kind compliments.
"It's very hard work to do such events but we believe well worth the effort."
