Record haul for Robin Hood's Bay weekend

A RECORD sum raised at Robin Hood Bay's annual Victorian Weekend has been distributed to help a wide variety of local organisations.

The event, held during the first weekend in December, has to contend at times with harsh winter weather.

Dick Hoyle, spokesman for The Victorian Weekend Committee of the Robin Hood's Bay Tourism Association, which organises the event, said: "The weather is unpredictable and there are times when we've had snow but it all adds to the wonderful atmosphere.

"It was started to boost tourism in Robin Hood's Bay in the out of season winter period and it's proved successful. Many visitors come now especially for it.

"It's hard work but everyone seems to enjoy it and we already have bookings for next year.

"We're grateful to everyone, including local businesses, sponsors and advertisers, who help."

A total of 3,666.99 was raised by a variety of events including an auction when old street nameplates in the village, replaced by modern ones, raised 200.

Mr Hoyle said: "This year we decided to give all the money to local charities and good causes."

Donations were made to the following organisations: Fylingdales C of E School 250 for their butterfly garden, Fylingdales pre-school 575 for a computer, Old St Stephen's Church 100 towards general funds, Village Hall 200 towards refurbishment, Fylingdales Football Club 539 for portable goalposts, Fylingthorpe playground 500 to replace equipment, Blooming Baythorpe 200 for general funding, Scouts/Cubs 200 for camping equipment/activities, Guides 200 for general funds, Fylingdales Cricket club 200 for a generator, Fylingdales WI 400 for roof repairs to Wibury, Raw Animal Rescue Centre 200 for animal food.
