Pupils choosing own school meals

GIVING schoolchildren the chance to choose their own dishes for their school dinners has meant more of them deciding to have them, Sleights Primary School staff discovered.

Headteacher Caroline Spencer said children have been choosing the dishes as part of a National School Meals Week that the school joined in.

One pupil, Christopher Smith, chose as his favourite meal of sausage in a home-made roll with chips, peas, sweetcorn and tomato sauce followed by oatie apple crumble and custard.

School cook Teresa Eglon rewarded Christopher with a mug and certificate.

Miss Spencer said: “We’ve found a lot more children have stayed for their school meals since we’ve been doing this.”
