A MAN who smashed a glass window at the Station Inn following a brawl on New Quay Road is being sought by Whitby Police.

At around 3am on Friday 19 October a group of around eight men were seen in a heated confrontation outside Station News.

Two males left the group and walked past the Station Inn. As they passed one male lashed out and punched a window, which is situated next to the main entrance of the premises, causing £400 worth of damage.

Whitby Police’s Kerry Birkenshaw said: “The male responsible was caught on CCTV running through the plough yard on to Baxtergate then over the Swing Bridge. He is then seen to turn right on to Church Street and then left through Caedmon’s Trod where he disappears out of sight. Unfortunately, the footage is not good enough quality to identify him.”

The man is described as in his mid-20s, six-feet tall, of skinny build with short dark hair. He was wearing a white checked shirt and red coloured chino-style jeans.

He was seen drinking in Beez bar prior to the incident.

The other man, who was with the assailant when the window was smashed, initially stopped to talk to the owner when the suspect fled. However he refused to say what his friend was called and left the area before police arrived.

He is not a suspect but is described as white, 5ft 11inches tall, in his 20s with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact PC 1685 Kerry Birkenshaw by calling 101.

The police would particularly like to speak with anyone who can recall a male wearing red or burgundy trousers out in the pubs in the town centre during the evening of Thursday 18 October leading in to the early hours of Friday 19 October.
