Police appeal after man killed crossing road

A local man has died after being hit by a car as he crossed the road on the outskirts of Whitby.

The pedestrian, a 35-year-old local man, was hit by a black Ford Focus and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Scarborough Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Focus was travelling north in the direction of Whitby and was being driven by a 34-year-old man from Redcar, who was uninjured in the incident.

The road was closed for around six-and-a-half hours while officers conducted a detailed examination of the scene.

Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information. In particular, they would like to hear from anyone who saw the pedestrian or the Ford Focus prior to the collision.

Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Traffic Sergeant Pete Wood or Traffic Constable Gareth Gilleard at Scarborough Road Policing Group.

Alternatively, information can be emailed to pete.wood@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or gareth.gilleard@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk
