Pictures and results from Egton big show day
FOR the first time in nine years, Egton Show was blessed with sunshine and dry weather as crowds turned out to enjoy its 121st village show.
There were more visitors through the gates than last year as they flocked to see an array of attractions including a falconry display, a farmers' market and classes for horses, cattle, sheep and ferrets.
Egton Show, which is one of the country's largest volunteer-run shows, brought back pig classes for the first time in 30 years.
The show's general secretary, Daphne Jackson, said: "We have brought them back because people just don't get a chance to see pigs these days – they are particularly popular with children.
"It is great to have them back."
The top attraction this year in the main ring was the falconry display by Ben Potter, who caused commotion in the afternoon when one of his falcons went missing.
Mrs Jackson said: "If anyone sees something bigger than a seagull over Whitby, they will know what it is."
The school children's section proved more popular than ever, with a record 700 entries.
"It is great to see children preparing exhibits in their school holidays," Mrs Jackson added.
Mulgrave Estate's resident agent John Hoyes was proud to carry out duties of Egton Show president and he and his wife were invited to judge the children's fancy dress competition.
Mr Hoyes said: "It is a real honour to represent Mulgrave Estate at what is a fantastic showcase for everything that is great about this part of the world."
