Patients hit by hospital car park rise - COMMENT ON THIS STORY

SCARBOROUGH Hospital has increased its one-hour parking charge for non-staff to £1.20.

The rise from 1 to 1.20 became effective this week and will hit people in Whitby with more and more patients from the town being transferred down the coast.

One to two hours will remain at 2.50 and the Scarborough and North East Healthcare NHS Trust will also be introducing an additional two to four-hour option which will be priced at 3, with over four hours remaining at 5.

James Hayward, the trust's director of facilities, said: "The trust's car parking charges are reviewed on an annual basis.

"The increases are in line with those already made by Scarborough Borough Council, while the overall charges remain below those of the council."

No changes are due to be made to the staff parking tariff but this will also be reviewed on an annual basis.
