Nominate your Miss Regatta 2010 now!

WHITBY Gazette readers are once again being asked to send in their nominations for this year's Miss Regatta.

The prestigious title is one of the most popular traditions of the annual three-day festival which takes place this year on 21, 22, and 23 August.

The Whitby Regatta is now in its 170th year and includes a host of attractions including rowing races, fairground rides, competitions such as tug-of-war, music and a grand fireworks finale on the Monday night.

Miss Regatta's role is to act as an ambassador for the town by greeting local dignitaries, presenting prizes and waving to the crowds.

The chosen girl will also get to don the traditional white dress, blue sash and tiara although if they prefer they can choose an outfit of their own choice.

She will take the sash from last year's Miss Regatta, Jess Nightingale. Just complete the entry form opposite and write on a separate piece of paper in no more than 100 words why you or the person you have nominated should be crowned Miss Regatta 2010.

A shortlist will then be drawn up and all those invited will attend an informal interview at Whitby Pavilion.

Send your nominations to: Miss Regatta, The Whitby Gazette, 17-18 Bridge Street, Whitby,YO22 4BG.

But be quick – the closing date for nominations is 9 August.

* There is a nomination form in the Friday 30th July edition of the Whitby Gazette on page 3.
