New tenant for murder flat

THE flat where Whitby woman Julie Davison lived and was murdered has been re-let.

It had been boarded up since the incident in April but the boards came off just a few weeks ago and within a week a new tenant had been allocated the keys.

Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association, which manages the flat, said the new tenant lived nearby previously and was “aware” of the history of the flat.

Lisa Pickard, chief executive, quashed rumours that no-one wanted to live in the flat because of what had happened and that it was going to be converted into offices instead.

She said: “We had interest, it really wasn’t an issue. It has been dealt with sensitively, the police were very good about it. We wanted to respect the family and let the tenant move in and make it her own.”

Julie’s family, sister and brother-in-law Dawn and George Kibble said they were pleased the flat had been let out again.

George said: “We are glad but we don’t ever want to see it again.”

He added that Julie’s furniture and some belongings were being donated to a charity in Scarborough that sells cheap furniture to people in need.
