New DVD takes a trip down Heritage Coast
A NEW DVD has been released that takes you on a colourful and informative journey down the spectacular heritage coast from Staithes to just north of Scarborough.
North Yorkshire’s Heritage Coast has been released by Timeline Digital Media, and journeys south from Staithes, through Port Mulgrave, Runswick Bay, Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and ending up in Scalby Mills, Scarborough.
Along the way, it examines the links to the history of the area, looking at the region’s associations with historic figures like Captain James Cook and William Scoresby, as well as fictional characters like Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
It also looks at the diverse industries, from shipping and mining to fishing and tourism that have helped shape the development of the region.
Kevin Allen of Timeline said: “This is the second dvd in a series produced by Timeline Digital Media featuring the North Yorkshire Coast, along with the places, people, and history that make the area so captivating.
“The first film, which documented the history and development of Scarborough’s North Bay Railway, was a great success and proved popular with viewers of all ages, and with this second film, the aim was again to produce a documentary with broad appeal.
“I like to think the DVD has a little of something for everyone.
“So along with lots of footage of the stunning coastline itself, we’ve also focused on the settlements that have grown up along the coast, their history (both factual and legendary), and of course the famous names associated with the area.
“The project took three months to film and edit, and involved countless early mornings to gain the hours of footage from which the final selections were made.
“Invaluable help came from, among others, Charles Forgan from the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, Stuart Swann from the NE Yorkshire Geology Trust and Mark Edwards at Whitby Museum.”
