New book set to be launched on Bay writer Walmsley
A SOCIETY formed to bring together devotees of the novels of a Robin Hood's Bay author is staging a day of events on Saturday.
The Walmsley Society was formed in 1985 to bring together devotees of the novels of the late Robin Hood's Bay writer Leo Walmsley.
Membership now stands at well over 200 worldwide, including several members of his family.
Many of the books, set in the village and long out of print, have now been re-published by the society and will be available on the day, with the launch of the latest, Phantom Lobster, which beautifully describes the lives of the fishing community in 'Bay in the 1920s.
Leo's father James Ulric Walmsley was the local artist and photographer from the 1890s until his death in 1950, recording the village and coast in his paintings and picture postcards.
This event will show how a modern-day artist uses well-tried methods, but in his own individual style, to create similar pictures of the area.
On Saturday, the Walmsley Society will host a day of events beginning with a live painting demonstration by Charles Evans, a talented watercolour artist from Northumberland who is well-known for his appearances on Tyne Tees, Yorkshire and Sky TV.
Charles will be demonstrating his skills and techniques in creating artwork from 2pm at Fylingdales Village Hall in Robin Hood's Bay.
An admission charge is applicable.
In the evening at 7pm at Fylingdales Village Hall Robin Lidster presents his unique and enthralling Magic Lantern Slide Show of old Robin Hood's Bay.
Again a small admisison charge will apply.
