New baby for new year

Little PHOEBE Sue helped her parents get 2013 off to a good start after becoming Whitby’s new year baby.

She was born at 7.20pm on New Year’s Day, surprising parents Richard Dowson and Vikki Walker who thought she would be a late arrival.

They were so convinced Phoebe wouldn’t be born on her due date that dad Richard (30) even went out for a few drinks on New Year’s Eve.

Luckily Vikki’s sister was on hand to drive them to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough at about 6am on New Year’s Day when it became obvious Phoebe was on her way.

Yesterday the family were back home at St Mary’s Crescent where Bradley (eight), Richard’s son from a previous relationship, was on hand to meet his new little sister.

Richard, a member of Whitby’s lifeboat crew, said: “It is a brilliant start to the new year, what a way to start it off. They are both absolutely fine.”
