Mulgrave Sport opening

HUNDREDS of people celebrated as a dream came true when the £700,000 Sport Mulgrave Centre was officially opened.

England football hero Peter Beardsley and Lady Normanby cut the ribbon to open the centre.

He delighted schoolchildren by spending more than an hour playing football with them.

Dougie Raine, one of the people who helped make Sport Mulgrave a reality, said: "The idea was first conceived five years ago and a committee was formed.

"Everybody has worked extremely hard to make Sport Mulgrave possible.

"Five years ago I don't think anybody really believed we would have a fantastic facility like this."

Whitby Town star Ashley Lyth, his brother Adam, who plays for Yorkshire County Cricket Club, were also among those attending the ceremony.
