Motorcyclists seriously injured after collision
A MOTORCYCLIST was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital on Wednesday with serious injuries after a crash with another motorcyclist.
Emergency services and a police accident investigation team were called to the scene of the serious collision on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road, just past the Egton turn-off.
The collision, which occurred at just before 5pm, involved two motorcycles, heading in the opposite direction.
One of the riders, who was on a black Suzuki GS500, was taken to James Cook University Hospital on Teesside by Great North Air Ambulance, with a suspected broken leg and other injuries.
The other, an off duty police officer on a BMW R1200, was taken to the same hospital by road ambulance.
The injuries to both men were described as serious but not life-threatening.
The stretch of the A171 was closed to traffic for four hours to allow the police to investigate the scene and for the motorcycles to be recovered.
Local diversions were put in place.
Witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have noticed either motorcycle prior to the collision, is asked to contact Traffic Constable Richard Hammond of the Eastern Road Policing Group on 0845 60 60 247.
