Monthly lunch club for Lythe

LYTHE Village Hall is now hosting a monthly lunch club for its local residents, with the purpose of creating a social atmosphere for all ages.

The lunch club, which is run entirely by volunteers, offers a service on the last Thursday of each month and usually runs between noon and 2pm.

Lunch usually consists of a main meal and dessert and has proved very popular with the locals, especially in their first month when they served a meal of chicken breast and potatoes in a mushroom sauce for around 3.

The event is organised by Sally Coward who has a team of volunteers behind her and although the lunch club is not free, the team insist that they are not motivated by profit and are running the club purely to give back to the people of Lythe.

Although, at the moment the club is only a monthly event, publicity officer Wendy Norman is keen to extend the event.

She said "We are hoping to get a play area in the spring, so that the event is more child-friendly, we are also looking in to organising a game of bingo or two in the winter months."

Wendy expressed her interest in expanding the idea and having a snooker room.

She added: "I think the local residents are under the impression that this event is purely for older people.

"It is open to everyone, it is about bringing the community together and giving them somewhere to socialise."

The next lunch club will be on Thursday 26 August, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, when there will strawberry teas with cakes, biscuits and a selection of sandwiches.
