Mayor presents plaque to Dutch visitors

THE Dutch Cruising Association, The Toerzeilers, made their 18th annual visit to Whitby during Folk Week.

Whitby Yacht Club hosted a reception on the Wednesday evening which was attended by the town’s Mayor and Mayoress, Coun Steve and Amanda Smith.

Coun Smith presented a gift on behalf of the yacht club to the Toerzeilers and also presented a plaque to each skipper to mark their voyage, which involved a round trip of more than 400 miles, taking approximately 36 hours each way.

This was an impressive achievement, considering the difficult conditions they experienced in the final part of their journey to Whitby on the Sunday evening.
