Karate kids learn moves
BUDDING Bruce Lees were taught the martial art of karate as part of a special visit to Ruswarp School.
Chris Watmough 2nd Dan and Ian Henderson Brown Belt from Whitby Shotokan Karate Club visited pupils on Monday 17 May for an afternoon of karate.
All the children from reception to Year 6 joined in and learnt a variety of karate stances and moves.
Some classes worked on balance, control and co-ordination while others answered quiz questions about karate but everyone had a great afternoon.
The karate sessions in school appealed to both the boys and girls and the school already has quite a few children who attend the Shotokan Karate club in Whitby regularly sharing their achievements after their gradings in the school's celebration assemblies.
Headteacher Victoria Hewison said: "After our afternoon with Sensei Chris and Ian the children are looking forward to their next taste of karate and I'm sure there will be a few more new recruits from Ruswarp School at the Shotokan Karate Club in Whitby."
