Kangaroos thrills and spills at Whitby Regatta - VIDEO

THE crowds were blown away by the aerial thrills and spills of The Kangaroos Gymnastic Team over regatta weekend.

The team from Polesworth in the Midlands wowed the crowds on Sunday and Monday with their high flying antics.

The young acrobats, some as young as 11 up to 28, wowed the gathered masses with two shows a day.

One was a comedy routine and the other a high spinning trampoline display, that saw the performers performing triple somersaults 20ft in the air. Team organiser Bruce Gracie said his lads were delighted to have been invited to Whitby Regatta.

He said: "We have been all over the country performing and we are honoured to have been asked to come for Whitby for the first time.

"The lads all come from Polesworth High School and train every week to get to the standard they are at now.

"We like to put on a good show and I think it's easy to see that the crowd enjoyed it."

The Kangaroos Gymnastics Team was formed in 1981, and over the years has grown in popularity at all types of venue

Their outstanding performances were an appearance at Wembley Stadium before an FA Cup Final and the team have also performed for the Queen.

The level of performance is now so high that at least six members perform double somersaults over a car – such as a Land Rover Discovery – and perform an Olympic vault simultaneously over a six foot vaulting table, and several perform triple somersaults.

In an average display well over 250 somersaults of all kinds are performed, producing an enthralling and exciting spectacle for any audience.
