It's showtime at Sleights School

CHILDREN at Sleights Primary School took on challenging themes with their end of term musical production.

Originally based on a 1960's children's novel by well-known writer Mary Hayley Bell, the production Whistle Down the Wind was described by teacher Paul Freeman as very emotional and thought-provoking.

The story centres around a group of children who believe that an escaped convict they find in a barn in the North York Moors is Jesus Christ.

Mr Freeman said: "It was a challenging production with themes involving loyalty and trust but the children really enjoyed it.

"We had a matinee performance and an evening one, both well attended and a member of the audience said afterwards that it was so professional we should do it at Whitby Pavilion."

The children who took part were the school's years five and six, aged from nine to 11.

It was directed and produced by Theresa Wall and Pauline Crusher accompanied on piano.
