WHITBY Salvation Army members will spend Christmas Day providing a festive celebration for lonely and needy people in the area.

The festivities start at 10.30am with tea, coffee and biscuits at the Salvation Army centre in St Peter’s Court, Whitby, followed by a short carol service.

A turkey Christmas dinner with all the trimmings will be served at 12.30pm.

In the afternoon there will be entertainment with ukelele player Peter White and a selection of songs including nostalgic George Formby numbers.

Tea and mince pies will be served at 3pm when the guests will have the opportunity to watch the Queen’s speech on television.

When the guests leave they will each receive a goodie bag containing a variety of sandwiches, sausage rolls and similar items.

Around 50 guests are expected and they will be picked up from their homes at around 10.30am.

Anyone in the Whitby area who would like to be included should call (01947) 821197.
