The Mines Inspectorate has launched an investigation after a “potentially fatal” incident at Boulby mine.
The incident occurred at the Cleveland Potash mine on January 9 and saw a partial collapse of the tunnel, a mile underground.
One writer on an online forum said it was fortunate that no one had been killed, although no miners were injured.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said: “We were notified of an incident at the mine and we have an ongoing investigation.”
The mine is owned by ICL Fertilizers of Isreal and is Britain’s only potash mine.
