IMAGES: Manslaughter arrest after Kettleness cliff fall

A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter following the death of a climber near Whitby.

These images show the RAF Sea King helicopter and a Runswick Bay Rescue Boat crew as they rush to cliffs near Kettleness on Friday.

Photographer Dag Kjelldahl was in Runswick Bay at the time and managed to capture these pictures.

The Sea King helicopter from RAF Leconfield recovered the 51-year-old casualty and transported him to James Cook University Hospital where he was prounced dead.

The voluntary Runswick Bay Rescue Boat service was contacted by the coastguard teams and requested to recover equipment from the base of the cliffs.

In the aftermath of the tragic fall a Whitby man - believed to be the victim’s fellow climber - has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

The arrested man is aged in his twenties and is from the Whitby area. He has been released on bail while police enquiries continue.

The man was said to be suffering from shock by a member of Whitby’s Coastguard team who attended the incident and was himself taken to James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
