Highly sought-after work on at Staithes' exhibition
THE annual Christmas exhibition of Staithes Group paintings will be held in the village this Sunday.
Tom and Rosamund Jordan are holding their one-day Staithes Group Christmas exhibition slightly earlier this year in the Memorial Hall in Cliff Road.
The Jordans will be bringing 54 examples from their work by members of the group of impressionist artists who worked in and around the fishing village a century ago.
Their pictures have been more sought after ever since low interest rates have made them an attractive alternative investment which can be enjoyed every day, regardless of market forces.
This is also becoming true of mining art, and there will be 23 examples for sale by the late Tom McGuinness, a Durham miner who went on to become arguably the best artist ever to depict working life underground.
Other northern artists' work to be included are Robert Leslie Howey, Angus Rands and Richard Marshall.
On a Christmas shopping level the Jordans will be bring a full selection of the exclusive limited edition prints of some of the best Staithes Group pictures they have had during the past 35 years.
The exhibition is free, but donations to the RNLI will be welcomed.
Teas, coffees and the Committee ladies mince pies will be available.
The exhibition will run from 11am till 4pm this Sunday.
