A Whitby woman is marking her impending 50th birthday over the weekend - by jumping out of a plane.
Joanne Pearson, of Helredale Road, is making the leap and doing a sponsored parachute jump tomorrow in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice.
Doing a parachute jump is something Joanne had always wanted to do before reaching the big 5-0 in October so she thought she would raise some money for a worthwhile cause that was close to her heart at the same time.
Joanne, 49, said: “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m doing it because I’ve got a lot of friends that have had cancer.
“Some are in remission, some have died like one last weekend and some are still fighting it.
“At the hospice it’s the care and attention that people receive - not just the ill but their families as well and there is the care they give to the terminally ill as well.
“It is a charity that is close to my heart.”
