Gymnasts to show they've got talent
A TEAM of gymnasts including three Whitby girls are jumping for joy after getting through to the TV audition stage of Britain's Got Talent.
The Scarborough Gymnastics Academy youngsters from Whitby, Bridlington and Pickering, now face a nail-biting performance in front of judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.
Sisters Freya (8) and Evie Storr (10) of Aislaby go to Sleights School.
Niamh Sweeney (12) goes to Eskdale School and lives near Boggle Hole.
The audition will be filmed for the ITV show but it is not yet known which auditions will be broadcast.
The Scarborough All Stars gymnastic club's first audition was at Newcastle in November where they did the routine for some of the show's producers.
They have now got through to the second round and on 30 January will appear before the celebrity panel.
They got a phone call at the beginning of last month to tell them they were on the maybe list and then a few days before Christmas they got the call to tell them that they had got through.
Coach Nikii Walker said: "They have done brilliantly to get this far and they are so excited – the girls said getting through to this stage was the best Christmas present ever.
"They have been working on perfecting their routine, so hopefully it will be one of the performances which stands out and is shown on TV."
The team of 18 gymnasts, aged between eight and 16, will travel to The Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle for filming on 30 January.
Miss Walker said: "I think what they've achieved is brilliant.
"It's something a bit different and they're having a lot of fun.
"The main competition prize is 100,000, but really the girls are happy just to be taking part."
If the team gets a yes vote from each of the three celebrity judges, they will make it through to the next round of the contest.
The ITV programme invites people of all ages to showcase their talents and has featured performers of all kinds, including singers, dancers and even performing dogs.
"They will do the same routine and wear the same costumes which consist of competition leotards which are pink and turquoise with stars on as that's what the producers have asked us to do," added Miss Walker.
