TWO friends who have dubbed themselves The Jetset Girls are gearing up for a 250 mile charity cycle over just five days – even though they haven’t ridden a bike for “donkey’s years”.
Carolyn Craven from Aislaby and Shirley Beeforth of Egton are in training for the women only event in Cuba in October.
It is in aid of Women V Cancer and they hope to raise a minimum of £3,000 each with a little help from local people and businesses.
They start with a fund-raiser at The Met on Saturday 9 February where popular local band Five Divide will be taking to the stage.
Carolyn, who works at Sainsbury’s, said: “We will both be 55 years-old and having not ridden a bike for donkey’s years, believe us, this will be a massive challenge, but most definitely one we feel will be worth all the aches and pains ahead.
“Cancer affects most families in one way or another, and ours are no different, we have both lost family members to this horrible disease but we also have others who have been more fortunate and have come out the other side.
“This is our way of taking positive action in the fight against ovarian, breast and cervical cancers. We believe this challenge is for a great cause and will take us on an exciting journey.”
