Fylingthorpe villagers hit £200,000 target
VILLAGERS are celebrating after netting £200,000 in just eight months to renovate Fylingdales Village Hall.
Thanks to a recent 43,000 grant from North Yorkshire County Council's LEADER programme the village hall in Robin Hood's Bay has hit its renovation fund-raising target.
The hall's fund-raising committee achieved this in just eight months since the start of the fund-raising programme thanks to generous local support, donations and several hefty grant awards.
These came from the Big Lottery's Community Sustainable Energy Programme, North York Moors National Park Authority's Sustainable Development Fund and The Low Carbon Building programme.
Chairman of Fylingdales Village Hall, Paul Johnston, said: "It's been hard work but we are delighted by the grants raised in such a short space of time.
"However, it's taken almost three years in all to get to the stage where we are ready to start physical work on the building."
The hall will be closed completely from the start of September and the end of December to enable all upgrading work to be carried out.
This includes a new heating system, installation of insulation and solar panels, a new kitchen and new windows.
Mr Johnston added: "We will soon be looking to promote the use of the upgraded hall to users needing meeting rooms and a venue for weddings, parties and other activities.
"To help us do so we are on the look out for a graphic designer to work with us on a newsletter, hall promotional leaflet and other visual imagery."
