From Manic Street Preachers album to a night on stage

ONE of the greatest instrumentalists of his generation will be bringing his trademark howling Hammond sound to the Stephen Joseph Theatre at the end of this month.

The James Taylor Quartet is an influential and prolific band at the forefront of the acid jazz movement.

They are acknowledged as masters of the jazz/funk/R&B workout, where 60s spy themes, psychedelic and free form jazz all play their part in the creation of the band’s distinctive sound.

When JTQ released their first single in 1985, it immediately attracted the attention of John Peel who championed it.

With an ever-growing following, they have built up a solid relationship between them and their fans due to an emphasis on live ‘dance’ music.

With the release of numerous albums and an extensive number of performances, their trademark sound has reached a worldwide audience.

With JTQ’s success, James’ musical talent became admired by numerous other acts including The Wonderstuff, Manic Street Preachers, The Pogues and U2, who have all featured James and his distinctive Hammond playing on their albums.

You can hear him for yourself at the theatre a week on Thursday.
