A double decker bus was involved in a collision with a tipper lorry near Aislaby on Valentine’s Day.

The incident occurred at around 4.20pm and as a result an 80-year-old bus passenger was taken to James Cook Hospital with a serious back injury.

An Arriva double decker bus was involved in a collision with a tipper lorry on the A171 and police are hoping to trace the driver of a forklift or telehandler, similar to a JCB, which was travelling in front of the bus.

PC Neil Graham, of Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you are the driver the JCB type vehicle I urge you to contact the police straight away as you may have vital information that could help my enquiries. I am also keen to speak to anyone witnessed the collision and ask them to get in touch.”

Anyone who can help officers should contact Whitby police on 101, select option 2 or email neil.graham@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
