Firm has another pop at development

Developers have re-submitted plans to convert a Whitby eyesore into houses after they were turned down last month.

Open Aspect Property Solutions, based in West Yorkshire, has removed one dwelling from the re-development of the former Hoggarths lemonade factory at Spital Bridge.

The firm believes that will allay councillors objections about over development of the site and it impacting on nearby existing houses.

Ian Storrar said: “All we have done is remove one house from it.

“We have tried to put more distance in between the new buildings and the existing properties and provided additional car parking.

“These were the areas we were told councillors had objected to and we have tried to address these.”

The scheme will now see the existing Hoggarths building demolished and rebuilt to form two, three storey town houses.

The appearance of them will be similar to the existing building, which falls within the conservation area.

It wasn’t possible, they added, to convert it because it is deemed structurally unsafe and wouldn’t be commercially viable.

The buildings to the rear of the old factory will also be demolished and four new town houses, with between two and four bedrooms, constructed in their place instead of the proposed five.

It also enables the firm to provide more parking areas which had also been raised by councillors.

There will now be ten spaces for the six dwellings.

The planning application is expected to be considered in July.
